General Information

You can help make a huge difference in Sussex County by volunteering your time and efforts at Ginnie’s House. Our volunteer opportunities fall into two categories.

Contact with Children

1. Office Help

(answering the phone, putting packets together for families, assisting with workshops, preparing workshop materials, and child supervision)

2. Helping with Children’s Functions

(Annual Holiday Party and Annual Back-to-School Fair)

No Contact with Children

1. Fundraising Events

(item solicitation, mailings, décor, golf tournaments, third-party fundraisers)

2. Community Education Events

(speakers bureau, open house)

Available Volunteer Positions:

Position: Dinner Auction or Fundraising Volunteer – Solicitation

Position: Dinner Auction or Fundraising Volunteer – Solicitation

Responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with purpose, program and structure of Ginnie’s House
  • Solicitation volunteers
    • Provide written requests for in-kind donations to the auction or other fundraisers to businesses
    • Document response (decline, follow-up, come back, received) and give feed-back to solicitation coordinator
    • Ensure donor information, value of item and description of item is attached to the item
    • Deposit item in designated place
  • Document volunteers hours
  • Document expenses and mileage for your own income tax deductions
  • Provide feed-back to Ginnie’s House regarding your experience and any suggestions for improvement
  • Ensure current contact details with coordinator to ensure communication of last minute details

Position: Township Days and Farm and Horse Show Volunteer

Position: Township Days and Farm and Horse Show Volunteer

Responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with purpose, program and structure of Ginnie’s House
  • If necessary, pick-up, transport and assemble canopy, folding table, chairs, display, literature and activity. Disassemble and return at the end of the event.
  • Work with other volunteers at the event or ensure communication at shift change
  • Be familiar with a designated activity at the table designed to:
    • Engage children
    • Be child safe and appropriate
    • Provide an opportunity for accompanying adult to review and receive information regarding child abuse
  • Be ready to provide informational materials as appropriate to parents
  • Provide statistics regarding the number of encounters with members of the community
  • Document volunteers hours
  • Provide feed-back to Ginnie’s House regarding your experience and any suggestions for improvement
  • Ensure current contact details with coordinator to ensure communication of last minute details

Position: Golf Outing Volunteer

Position: Golf Outing Volunteer

Responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with purpose, program and structure of Ginnie’s House
  • Golf Outing Volunteers:
    • Help assemble goodie bags as needed prior to event
    • Bring folding chair, suitable clothing, sun-screen/bug spray and a book to event
    • Familiarize with courtesy rules of golf course:
      • Stay well out of the green
      • Silence while golfers are playing
      • Do not touch balls
      • Stay alert for balls (FORE)
      • Advise of winning plays
      • Do not drive carts on tees or greens or cut through play
      • Do not drive along fairways when golfers are actively playing – you could get hurt and it distracts them.
  • Document volunteer hours
  • Provide feed-back to Ginnie’s House regarding your experience and any suggestions for improvement
  • Ensure current contact details with coordinator to ensure communication of last minute details

Position: Office Help at Ginnie’s House

Position: Office Help at Ginnie’s House

Responsibilities:

  • Undertake a routine schedule of assistance at Ginnie’s House (e.g. one morning per week)
  • Advise Volunteer Coordinator asap if not able to fulfill commitment
  • Check Volunteer Task Request binder in mezzanine room for tasks
  • Complete requested tasks with additional instruction if necessary and make notes in binder
  • Track hours and provide to Coordinator on monthly basis
  • Advise Administrative Assistant or Volunteer Coordinator of any supply needs, broken or missing items, or building issues

Probable tasks include administrative duties such as copying, filing, sorting/storage, shredding, answer phones, mailing preparation, inventory, seasonal decorating, and gift wrapping.
