Ginnie’s House to provide information at Thank You Mom 5K

12 April, 2015 at Noon 1091 East Shore Drive, Swartswood, NJ

Thank You Mom (www.thankyoumomfoundation.org) had its annual 5K race in Swartswood State Park – 1091 East Shore Drive, Swartswood, NJ on Sunday, April 12, 2015 starting at 12 Noon.

Ginnie’s House was invited to be present and provide information to attendees regarding the need for all citizens to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect, to be able to respond appropriately when child abuse is disclosed, and how to report abuse to the appropriate authorities.

Kenny Modrow, Founder of Thank You Mom Foundation, saw the recent New Jersey Herald article regarding Montclair State University intern Tori Simeone’s pin-wheel pots Tori’s Pin Wheels of Prevention providing information on child abuse and neglect.  Kenny reached out to Tori and invited her to be present at the 5K.

“I am delighted to be able to provide more people about this essential information” said Simeone.  “This information may save a child’s life – it is that important.”

In 1983, President Ronald Regan proclaimed April to be National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  The County of Sussex Proclaimed April to be Child Abuse Awareness month in Sussex County (see story – Goal 100%).

The study released by the Center for Disease Control and Kaiser Permanente showed that the more adverse childhood experiences an individual experienced, including abuse and neglect, the more ilnesses, obesity, addictions and interpersonal violent relationships may be experienced in later life.
